Check a website's meta tags

Type the address: Veezco reads the homepage and shows you the title and description Google uses, how many characters they have, the H1, the canonical, whether the page asks not to be indexed and how a shared link looks on social media.

pizzeriamario.exampleExample · imaginary sitePage read: https://www.pizzeriamario.example/
  • Page title: 39 characters

“Pizzeria Mario · Pizza al forno a legna”. Within the 60 characters Google usually shows.

  • Meta description: missing

Without one, Google shows a snippet of its own choosing.

  • Main heading (H1): found

“La pizza di Mario, dal 1987”

  • Indexing: allowed

No noindex in the page code: Google can show it in results.

  • Canonical: this page

    https://www.pizzeriamario.example/

  • Page language: it

Declared in the code with the lang attribute.

  • Social preview: no image

og:image is missing: a link shared on WhatsApp, Facebook or LinkedIn shows without a picture, or with a random one.

What the check reads

Title and description

The homepage's title and meta description, with characters counted: they are the blue line and the grey text in Google results.

H1, canonical and noindex

The page's main heading, the address it declares as the right one and the meta robots tag: a forgotten noindex takes the site out of Google.

Language and social preview

The lang attribute, which says what language the page is in, and the Open Graph tags, which decide how the site looks when someone shares it on WhatsApp, Facebook or LinkedIn.

Three answers, never a guess

A check from outside sees the HTML the site sends, not what scripts add later. That is why there are three answers.

  • Found

We read it, and it is there. With proof: the ID, the record, the piece of code.

  • Not found

We read it, and it is not there. We only say so when the page could have contained it.

  • Not read

It couldn't be read, and we tell you why: Tag Manager, a timeout, a robots.txt. It's not a no.

Why meta tags matter

The title is the first thing people read about a business on Google, before the site itself: “Home” or “Welcome” say neither what it does nor where. The description is the reason to click, and without one Google picks its own.

For anyone who builds websites or does SEO, it's the check to run before a call: a generic title, a missing description or a forgotten noindex are problems the owner can see for themselves, on their phone, while you talk.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check a website's meta tags?

Type the address above: the check reads the homepage and shows the title and meta description with characters counted, the H1, the canonical, the meta robots tag, the language and the Open Graph tags. Every row says whether it is fine, what is wrong and why.

How long should the title and description be?

Google cuts titles at a width in pixels, not at a number of characters: as a guide, within 60 characters a title is almost always shown in full, and a description within 160. The check counts them and says so, without promising more.

What does “noindex” mean?

It's an instruction in the page code asking Google not to show the page in results. It goes on sites under construction and sometimes stays there after launch: the site is live, but not on Google.

Does the check read the whole site?

No: only the homepage, once, the way a browser receives it, and respecting the site's robots.txt. Every page has its own meta tags: here you get the homepage's, the page Google shows for the business name.

Do you store the sites I check?

No. The result stays in memory for ten minutes, so the same site isn't read twice if you check it again, then it's gone. To stop abuse we count how many checks come from each IP address, without storing the address.

Can I find businesses with SEO issues in my city?
